The Brandenburg University of Technology Cottbus-Senftenberg (BTU) bundles top-level research and transfer at an international level, thereby creating an interdisciplinary innovation network and an excellent science and technology location. Together with its renowned partners, the BTU forms the Lausitz Science Network - an alliance of research institutions that together want to further develop the strengths of the science location Cottbus-Senftenberg and increase its visibility. Through innovative research and new teaching and learning formats, the BTU is shaping the future: with scientific findings and practice-relevant solutions, it is helping to shape the major issues of the future and transformation processes. In four profile lines - "Energy Transition and Decarbonization," "Health and Life Sciences," "Global Change and Transformation Processes," and "Artificial Intelligence and Sensor Technology" - it combines its strengths in teaching and research across institutes and faculties.
At its locations in Cottbus and Senftenberg, the BTU guarantees its students a challenging education, individual support and the opportunity to learn from and with each other with curiosity and openness. The BTU stands for an inspiring atmosphere of learning and research in a dialogical, democratic cooperation of all: The diversity of our faculty and students enables innovation and progress.
The Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, Electrical and Energy Systems invites applications for a
to be filled as a tenure-track W2 professorship at the earliest opportunity.
The junior professorship is integrated into the Institute for Electrical and Thermal Energy Systems and into the center for hybrid electric systems Cottbus (chesco) as a central scientific institution.
The junior professorship is embedded in the Chair of Power Electronics and Drive Systems. Upon achieving the objectives after five years, the tenure track provides for a transition to a W2 professorship with its own chair at the Institute for Electrical and Thermal Energy Systems and close ties to the central scientific institution “Center for Hybrid-Electric Systems Cottbus” (chesco). An important factor here is that research into electric machines needs to be realigned in mobility applications, especially for aviation: safety and extremely high power density need to be dramatically improved compared to today's designs.
The manufacturing and testing of such machines will be carried out at chesco. Interdisciplinary research projects will be conducted in collaboration with neighbouring departments, particularly in the field of electromobility. Research work will not only be application- and industry-oriented, but will also relate to DFG-eligible basic research.
In the area of teaching, the junior professorship conducts lectures in the fields of electric drive systems and the fundamentals of electric machines. The focus is on German-language degree programs in electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, energy technology and economics, and industrial engineering, as well as English-language degree programs in hybrid electric propulsion technology and power engineering. Therefore, language skills that enable teaching in both languages are expected.
We are looking for:
... a nationally and internationally recognized personality with in-depth scientific experience in as many of the following areas as possible: design, development, and construction of electrical machines for mobile applications with very high power density, in particular:
For this purpose, evidence must be provided of
You have also already gained leadership experience by heading a scientific working group or a team in industry. Experience in acquiring third-party funding and in carrying out third-party funded projects is advantageous
The junior professorship is intended to represent the aforementioned areas in research and teaching in electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, energy technology and economics, and industrial engineering, as well as in the English-language degree programs Hybrid Electric Propulsion Technology and Power Engineering and in other degree programs at the BTU, and to perform teaching duties in the bachelor's and master's degree programs in German and English. We expect very good knowledge of English and German. If you do not have sufficient language skills, you must be willing to learn the relevant language as soon as possible. In addition to research and teaching, we expect you to be involved in the management of the institute, the faculty, or in university and non-university committees.
As a future junior professor, you can provide evidence of the following requirements in accordance with § 47 Para. 1 Brandenburg Higher Education Act (BbgHG):
In addition, you have experience in acquiring third-party funding and in carrying out third-party funded projects, whereby experience in DFG or EU projects is particularly desirable.
Your teaching experience enables excellent teaching for the subject area to be filled here. You have the ability to teach at all curricular levels from bachelor's to doctorate, to supervise theses and to support young academics. Your knowledge and experience enable you to participate in academic self-administration and in raising the profile of the faculty.
Other duties result from the requirements set by § 44 BbgHG in conjunction with § 3 BbgHG.
The requirements and conditions for appointment are set out in §§ 47 and 48 BbgHG. According to § 47 Para. 2 BbgHG, the periods of full time academic activity between the last examination performance oft he doctorate and the application for a junior professoship may not exceed four years. These periods shall be extended to the extent of a reduction in working hours by at least one fifth oft he regular working hours granted for the care or nursing of one or more children under the age of 18 or other relatives in need of care.
According to § 48 BbgHG, junior professors are appointed as temporary civil servants for a period of up to four years. If the interim evaluation is positive, the appointments ist o be extended to a maximum of six years. After successfully completing a six-year junior professorship, the tenure track offers the option of appointing the holder to a professorship in salary grade W2 following an appointment procedure.
BTU is committed to equal opportunities and diversity and strives for a balanced gender ratio in all employee groups. Persons with a severe disability and their equals are given priority in the case of equal suitability.
