We are a young and dynamic technical university in the heart of Lusatia, developing practical, science-based solutions to address major future challenges and global transformation processes.

In the field of biosensors, we develop new technologies and applications for the life sciences. Under the direction of Prof. Dr. Johannes Hohlbein, our research is at the interface between fluorescence microscopy, molecular biophysics and biotechnology.

Our core competence lies in the detection of single molecules and individual bacterial cells in biologically relevant environments. Methods such as Förster Resonance Energy Transfer (FRET), high-resolution microscopy (STORM, PALM), microfluidics and particle tracking allow us to observe individual biomolecules in action.

In the Faculty of Environment and Natural Sciences is in the Field of expertise Biosensor technology to fill the following position:

Postdoc position as Academic Staff (m/f/d) (qualification position)

Your area of responsibility includes in particular:

Research work:

• Scientific work within the framework of the research focus of the group
• Collaboration in the preparation and implementation of third-party funded projects (BMFTR, DFG, industrial projects)
• Presentation and publishing activities on the subject of research, preparation of contributions for reports and scientific conferences
• Own in-depth scientific work for further scientific qualification, primarily with the aim of habilitation
• Other research-related administrative tasks

Teaching assistance, including:

• Participation in teaching tasks according to content and methodological specifications
• currently for the Biotechnology (BSc and MSc) and Life Science and International Health degree programmes, to impart specialist knowledge, practical skills and instruction in the application of scientific methods
• Preparation, implementation and follow-up/evaluation of exercises and internships
• Collaboration in the preparation of lectures and seminars as well as other related administrative Responsibilities
• Development/updating of teaching materials, aids and collections of tasks
• Preparation, implementation and evaluation of oral and written examinations

Your requirements profile:

• Completed scientific university degree (Master's degree / university diploma / equivalent) in a field relevant to the activity (microbiology, biotechnology, biochemistry, biophysics or comparable discipline), relevant doctorate

The following knowledge is required:

• Experience in microbiological and molecular biology work under S1/S2 and sterile conditions, including isolation of plasmidic and genomic nucleic acids, PCR, qPCR, DNA cloning, fluorescence labeling, transformation and cultivation of bacteria, overexpression of proteins
• Knowledge of the analysis of scientific data, e.g. using Excel, Python, MATLAB, ImageJ/Fiji or comparable software
• Extensive publication experience with at least one publication as first author
• Very good knowledge of the English language

The following knowledge and experience are desirable:

• Knowledge of fluorescence microscopy
• Experience in biochemical work, in particular expression and purification of recombinant proteins, SDS-PAGE, liquid chromatography
• Interest in open hardware / open software / open science
• Experience with electronic lab notebooks
