The Albertus Magnus Institute, founded in 1931 and sponsored by the Archdiocese of Cologne, pursues as its goal the critical edition of the works of Albert the Great (Alberti Magni Opera omnia. Editio Coloniensis) and the study of his thought. The institute's work is supported by the Albertus Magnus Foundation and the Förderkreis Albertus-Magnus-Stiftung e.V. (Friends of the Albertus Magnus Foundation).

Responsibilities

  • Independent preparation of the critical edition of works by Albertus Magnus as part of the Opera Omnia Alberti Magni (Editio Coloniensis) using the Tübingen system of text-processing programs (TUSTEP)
  • Research into the thought of Albert the Great and preparation of scholarly publications in theology, philosophy, and related medieval studies disciplines, as well as translation of selected passages from the works of Albertus Magnus
  • Planning and delivery of courses, lectures, and seminars for specialist audiences and the broader public, including participation in academic conferences
  • Coordination of data processing at the institute, in particular planning and maintenance of the technical infrastructure, software licenses, data security, and email administration; support for the IT programs in use and user advising; liaison with the IT & Digitization department of the Archdiocese of Cologne
  • Redesign and maintenance of the websites of the Albertus Magnus Institute and its affiliated supporting organizations, as well as technical consulting for additional digital offerings of the institute

Your Profile

  • Master's degree or Diplom and an outstanding doctorate in Catholic theology, philosophy, or Latin philology with a medieval studies focus, or an equivalent qualification
  • Competence in editorial scholarship demonstrated through publications, with a focus on medieval studies, and many years of experience working with Latin texts
  • Excellent command of Latin as well as knowledge of paleography, stemmatics, and editorial technique
  • Thorough knowledge of the history of medieval theology and philosophy, demonstrated through publications, as well as familiarity with current research on scholasticism and the Middle Ages
  • Experience with common computer systems and data processing; ideally additional knowledge of TUSTEP, XML-TEI, and database systems
  • Structured, independent working style, high scholarly accuracy, and the ability to communicate complex content clearly to different target audiences; strong teamwork skills
  • Identification with the tasks, aims, and values of the Catholic Church
