Post-doctoral Researcher in Electrochemistry (m/f/d)

The Junior Professorship for Physical Chemistry at Interfaces is based at the Chair of Particle-Based Materials Chemistry at the Faculty of Sciences at Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg (FAU).

Your Tasks

  • Conduct experiments using scanning probe and electrochemical imaging techniques, including EC-AFM, and SECM related operando and in-situ characterization methods.
  • Investigate mechanisms of thin-film growth, surface restructuring and degradation, electrocatalytic reactions.
  • Correlate local surface morphology, chemical activity, and electrochemical performance.
  • Analyze and interpret microscopy and electrochemical datasets.
  • Able to work independently, in a team and collaborate with other researchers and mentor junior researchers.
  • Deliver results within the stipulated time frame.
  • Present research findings and publish peer-reviewed articles.
  • Involve in laboratory management, e.g., daily operations and maintenance of instrument.

Your Profile

  • A PhD degree in electrochemistry, physical chemistry, materials science, or related field.
  • Demonstrated experience with scanning probe techniques (AFM, STM, EC-AFM, c-AFM, KPFM, SECM etc).
  • Experience in one of more of the following areas would be advantageous: thin film electrodeposition, atomic layer deposition, X-ray scattering methods, and electron microscopy techniques.
  • A good publication records appropriate to career stage.
  • Experience with data analysis and scientific programming (e.g., Python, MATLAB, or similar tools) is an advantage.
  • Excellent written and spoken English, knowledge of German is an advantage.

The position is available immediately and is offered on a full-time basis. The initial appointment is for 1 year, with the possibility of extension for up to 2 additional years, based on performance.
