(CF-BIOS) at Helmholtz Munich is looking for a highly motivated staff scientist (f/m/x) to join our team.
CF-BIOS provides comprehensive bioinformatics and statistical support for diverse research applications. We work closely with data-generating facilities and on-campus computational groups to deliver integrated, high-quality workflows. Our services include analysis of various omics data sets, including single-cell, spatial and multi-omics intergrations, as well as supporting large cohort studies.

You will work closely with biologists, clinicians, statisticians, computational and other core facilities to develop and validate new software tools and computational pipelines. You enjoy teaching the next generation scientist in bioinformatics and computational topics in our courses and want to make an impact in developing future health solutions. Your tasks

  • Design and implementation of custom analysis projects for users and pipelines for general use in the core facility
  • Development and maintenance of the core facilities’ IT infrastructure and computational pipelines in close collaboration with the data generating core facilities
  • Development and testing of software tools for the core facility, integration of latest AI tools in workflows and courses
  • User consultation on data analysis strategies, publications and grant support
  • Teaching and development of courses for scientists at different levels (beginner to advanced)

Your profile

  • Master or PhD in informatics, bioinformatics, engineering, or related fields with corresponding work experience
  • Strong programming skills (R, Python, bash), versioning (Git) and solid knowledge of statistics
  • Experience in developing and deploying multi-user software applications with modern programming frameworks
  • Experience with Linux server and storage administration and with the use of high-performance computing environments
  • Demonstrable experience with various next-generation sequencing and array-based technologies and related bioinformatics analysis
  • Team-oriented, proactive, service mindset with strong communication skills
  • English and German language proficiency

Considered as a plus if you bring experience in/with

  • teaching
  • container technologies and domain specific workflow languages
  • complex spatial biology/multi-omics analyses
  • image analysis, proteomics and/or metabolomics datasets
  • a core facility setting (academic, industry)

If you fulfill all the requirements, you may be eligible for a salary grade of up to E 13. Social benefits are based on the Collective Wage Agreement for Public-Sector Employees (TVöD). The position has an (initial) fixed term until 31.12.2028 but may be extended under certain circumstances. As a requirement for this position, applicants must have (or be able to obtain) the legal right to work in Germany at the start of employment.
