Core Facility Genomics provides a wide range of cutting-edge genomics and spatial biology services to a diverse research community across academia and industry. Working together with colleagues from other in-house cores we support projects ranging from basic biology to translational research, leveraging state-of-the-art technologies including 10x Genomics Visium and Xenium platforms.

We are looking for a highly motivated scientist (f/m/x) with expert skills in spatial transcriptomics and NGS applications to join the team of the Genomics Core facility. You will play a central role supporting users with ongoing and upcoming spatial transcriptomics projects, as well as implement, optimize and further expand new application in this area. We are offering a unique multi-disciplinary position bringing together genomics, histology, and imaging data analysis. Your tasks

  • Support core customers in experimental design and troubleshooting
  • Perform quality control of submitted samples (RNA, DNA, libraries, single cells)
  • Perform customer experiments in Spatial Transcriptomics applications (Xenium and Visium) and NGS applications (Library prep and sequencing)
  • Set-up and operate complex equipment (e.g., Xenium, pipetting robots, various Illumina sequencers)
  • Establish and standardize methods for existing and upcoming spatial transcriptomics technologies
  • Establish, maintain, expand cross-disciplinary workflows and collaboration across various core facilities (especially CF-PTA and CF-BIOS) to maintain a comprehensive workflow for spatial transcriptomics
  • In collaboration with colleagues contribute to training users for spatial transcriptomics
  • Support customers with SOPs, reports, publications and presentations
  • Support maintenance of the LIMS systems and electronic data bases
  • Support smooth operation of the core facility (ordering, storing, instrument QC etc.)

Your profile

  • PhD-degree in biology or in a related field or MSc/senior technician with at least 10 years hands-on NGS experience; Postdoc with a relevant project (spatial transcriptomics) is a bonus
  • Experience with Spatial Transcriptomics workflows (especially Xenium and Visium) is a must
  • Advanced knowledge and hands-on skills in molecular biology and NGS applications (library prep, sequencing, basic data analysis)
  • Proven skills in method development and workflow optimization
  • Experience in writing scientific reports and SOPs
  • Experience in cell culture, tissue preparation techniques and microscopy is a plus
  • Good management, communication and organization skills
  • Clear customer service mentality to support users of the core facility
  • Able to work independently and as part of a larger team, attention to detail and rigor
  • Proficient English language skills (both written and spoken), German language skills at least B2 level

If you fulfill all the requirements, you may be eligible for a salary grade of up to E 13. Social benefits are based on the Collective Wage Agreement for Public-Sector Employees (TVöD). This position is for a fixed term of 18 months (maternity leave cover).
