YOUR ROLE

The subject matter of the professorship is the academic and professional foundations of social education, of education and socialisation processes, and of their specific configuration in various fields of activity, including but not limited to social work; it is therefore to represent these in teaching, research and continuing professional development.

Consideration is to be given to participatory and social education as key processes in various fields of activity across all ages and life stages of the target persons. Moreover, the professorship is to address the growing importance of digital learning and education processes as well as issues with facilitating these processes for target audiences in the relevant fields of activity.

A particular focus is to be placed on considering social inequalities, issues of intersectionality and vulnerable groups in precarious circumstances, giving equal weight to empowerment and the chances of actualisation and thus the extension of rights (social education). Applications and a professionally founded critical discourse are to be given equal attention.

YOUR PROFILE

You will have a (bachelor’s and/or master’s) degree in education with a focus on social pedagogy/social work or a comparable focus (e.g. adult education) and a relevant qualified doctorate corresponding to the subject area.

Your professional experience will be in the area of social education; educational and/or (re)socialisation contexts and/or participation, inclusion, sustainability, with a focus on or in working with target persons while considering social inequalities, issues of intersectionality and vulnerable groups in precarious circumstances.

You will have done academic work on issues of social education and participatory education and/or (re)socialisation processes.

Existing collaborations with institutions in social work, e.g. in the context of social education, (re)socialisation etc., should be continued, and new collaborations set up. Networking skills at the interfaces between institutions on the one hand and organisations, funding bodies and policymakers on the other are desirable. In this regard, we expect:

• Very good knowledge of the foundations of education and socialisation
• Very good knowledge of social pedagogy/social education and their fields of activity
• Very good knowledge of issues pertaining to inclusion, participation and sustainability
• Specific practical experience in fields of activity in social pedagogy, setting your own priorities
• Evidence of first experience in applying research methods from educational science

The following will also be welcome:

• Basic/good knowledge of didactics in social pedagogy/social education
• Knowledge or experience of digitalisation in the context of education and socialisation
• Experience in planning and carrying out research projects and/or in designing and implement innovative research approaches related to the foci mentioned

For this position, we are looking for a candidate with pedagogical aptitude marked by a skills-oriented, practice-oriented and action-oriented approach to teaching. You should be able to clearly link complex theoretical contents with practical application scenarios, bridging the gap between theory and practice.

You will be skilled in effectively integrating problem-based learning into teaching, able to inspire students to critically reflect on their professional actions and willing to collaborate with colleagues in developing and implementing co-operative teaching methods.

The Faculty of Social Work and Childhood Education attaches great importance to internationalisation and therefore requires that you have a good command of English.

It is therefore desirable that you give special weight to the topic of sustainability in the context of social work in your teaching, research and knowledge transfer, and that you address the contribution made to sustainable development by social work and childhood education.

You must be able to work in an international and interdisciplinary environment, to develop new teaching approaches and to enrich teaching through the use of digital technologies. We are looking for someone who can actively contribute to the further development of our faculty and inspire their students to address the global challenges in the fields of social work and childhood education.

For appointment as a professor, as well as the general staff requirements, the appointmentrequirements in accordance with Section 15 Para. 1-6 of the Hamburg Higher Education Act (HmbHG)also apply. These can be read on our .

This includes the willingness to participate in the self-administration committees of the HamburgUniversity of Applied Sciences as well as a choice of residence in proximity to the university.

The denomination of the vacant post is under the caveat of assessment at appropriate intervals inaccordance with Section 12 Para 7 HmbHG.

As well as the basic salary of grade W2 and basic performance benefits, a provision of appointmentperformance benefits is also possible which can be negotiated with the university president. Inaddition, there is also the possibility of granting a bonus from third-party funds.

Candidates who have not yet reached the age of 52 at the time of appointment may be appointed astenured officials, otherwise the employment relationship is that of a standard employee.
