PROFESSORSHIP IN THE SUBJECT AREA PUBLIC MANAGEMENT FOCUSING ON ACOUNTING

YOUR ROLE

You will teach and conduct research in economics modules in the Public Management and E-Government bachelor’s programmes.

Your teaching will focus on an introduction to business management in public administration and on the internal accounting of public authorities. A readiness to take on other economics lectures and seminars, as needed, e.g. in the area of public-sector accounting, is expected.

YOUR PROFILE

You will have a university degree and a doctorate, each in economics or administration; a focus on accounting in public administration and/or public-sector finance is desirable.

You are expected to have practical experience of working in public or charitable institutions, the ability to confidently teach the basics of business management in the context of public administration, and a focus on the areas of public management and public-sector accounting.

Consequently, you are expected to hold an academic qualification in economics or administration with an appropriate focus.

We are looking for a candidate with the necessary skills and qualifications for academic work, with evidence of achievements in the application or development of research findings and methods over at least five years’ professional work in the field, of which at least three years outside an academic environment (cf. points 3 and 4 of Section 15 (1) of the Hamburg Higher Education Act [HmbHG]).

We expect you to conduct your own independent and preferably relevant research. Relevant teaching experience and teaching skills in higher education are desirable.

The acquisition of skills for public administration is at the heart of the courses of study relevant to this post. Within the scope of the post to be filled, we expect you to collaborate with HAW Hamburg’s co-operation partners, to be willing to collaborate with all other disciplines represented in the programmes of study mentioned, and to be willing to participate in academic administration.

A willingness to get involved in developing and delivering professional development courses in the university is expressly welcomed.

In addition, we expect you to teach in English, to provide electronic teaching materials, to use teaching and learning systems (Moodle tools), to apply interactive teaching methods using videoconferencing and other tools so as to implement digital teaching and blended-learning approaches.

We also expect a reflected approach to teaching and assessment in the context of generative AI.

INFORMATION

For appointment as a professor, as well as the general staff requirements, the appointmentrequirements in accordance with Section 15 Para. 1-6 of the Hamburg Higher Education Act (HmbHG)also apply. These can be read on our .

This includes the willingness to participate in the self-administration committees of the HamburgUniversity of Applied Sciences as well as a choice of residence in proximity to the university.

The denomination of the vacant post is under the caveat of assessment at appropriate intervals inaccordance with Section 12 Para 7 HmbHG.

As well as the basic salary of grade W2 and basic performance benefits, a provision of appointmentperformance benefits is also possible which can be negotiated with the university president. Inaddition, there is also the possibility of granting a bonus from third-party funds.

Candidates who have not yet reached the age of 52 at the time of appointment may be appointed astenured officials, otherwise the employment relationship is that of a standard employee.
