University of Applied Sciences

Around 6,500 students pursue their studies and research in attractive degree programs at Trier University of Applied Sciences. We are the University of Applied Sciences, which has the highest level of research activity and third-party funding in Rhineland-Palatinate. This means we offer excellent conditions for carrying out projects in collaboration with regional and national industries.

Description

The professorship shown above is to be filled at the earliest possible date in the Department of Gestaltung at the Design Campus Trier.

Tasks

The Department of Design at the Design Campus in Trier is seeking to fill the above-mentioned professorship as soon as possible.

The teaching field Progressive Design Strategies in Digital Media within the Intermedia Design programmes (B.A./M.A.) at the Department of Design combines conceptual thinking and (experimental) digital design practice with well-founded methodology, complementing the other teaching areas within our generalist study programme.

As a department, we offer a professional, collegial, and supportive environment with considerable scope for applied research and knowledge transfer projects.

Courses are to be offered in German and, if required, also in English.

In addition to a strong commitment to teaching, active participation in the university's academic self-governance is expected.

The State of Rhineland-Palatinate and Trier University of Applied Sciences maintain a supervision concept that requires a high level of on-site presence of teaching staff at the university location.

☒ We both offer and expect dedicated collaboration within our team.

Recruitment requirements

For this professorship, we are looking for a committed individual who, after completing a university degree in Design, Media Art, Visual Communication, or a comparable field of study, has gained extensive experience in a position of responsibility and now wishes to pass this on to our students through teaching and research.

An outstanding personal design practice in digital media must be evidenced by a distinguished portfolio. In addition, candidates must demonstrate engagement with one or more of the following progressive design approaches:

– Critical Design

– Speculative Design

– Social Design

– Transformation Design

– Design Futuring

The teaching field enables students to develop systemic design strategies across media for contemporary and future-oriented challenges, grounded in theoretical foundations, with the possibility of media-specific specialisations that contribute to the profile of the study programme. Candidates are expected to have acquired the requisite sensitivity for these teaching and development processes through their own intermedial, creative practice and to demonstrate this through successful teaching experience.

A special aptitude for scientific work is usually demonstrated by a qualified doctorate. Alternatively, a special aptitude for artistic work may be recognised, evidenced by an outstanding artistic portfolio, exhibitions, awards, or comparable achievements.

All other appointment requirements are outlined in § 49 of the Higher Education Act of the State of Rhineland-Palatinate.

The employment takes place within a private law employment relationship.
