During your studies, you can contribute to our ongoing research projects. Join us in pushing the limits of what is technically feasible and be part of breaking new ground together. We offer a variety of challenging and practice-oriented topics for mandatory internships, Bachelor’s or Master’s theses or for student research assistants. You will analyse important scientific preliminary questions and support the project teams with development activities.
Condition Monitoring (CM) or Predictive Maintenance (PM) focuses on maximizing machine availability and reliability by anticipating failures before they occur. This enables timely and cost-effective maintenance planning.
Wireless sensor nodes are becoming increasingly popular for CM because of their flexibility in terms of positioning and re-positioning at desired locations as well as retro fitting. But, the limited energy posed by the wireless sensor nodes are a major downside especially in applications which involve high-data rate signals like vibration signals. The system design challenges are scaled for multi-node case.
On-Device learning of healthy and unhealthy states of machine using signal processing techniques is a smart way to minimize the amount of payload communicated between the sensor node and the central. But scalability of such algorithm for multi-node case is not simple.
Repositioning and change in the orientation of sensor node can effect the signal statistics and the training process may have to be repeated. Hence, the system design parameter space is very wide and has to be investigated and a solution should be proposed at the end for multi-node on-device training in the condition monitoring systems.
A system consisting of a rotating machinery, a wireless sensor node, and a base station has already been implemented.
We strengthen enterprises with application-oriented research and development in microelectronics, systems engineering and mechatronics and transfer the results of basic research into applications and products. We support companies in launching internationally successful innovations for health, the environment and industry and provide solutions from the feasibility study to series production.
