The Leibniz Institute on Aging - Fritz Lipmann Institute (FLI) in Jena is a federal and state government-funded research institute and member of the Leibniz Association (Leibniz-Gemeinschaft). FLI conducts internationally recognized, high-impact research on the biology of aging at the molecular, cellular, and systems levels. Scientists from around 40 countries investigate the mechanisms of aging to uncover its root causes and pave the way for strategies that promote healthy aging ().

The Leibniz Chair research group of Prof. Alessandro Cellerino (SNS Pisa/FLI) is seeking a highly motivated Postdoc to study fundamental biological processes of aging using transgenic methods in killifsh (Nothobranchius furzeri):

Research focus of the Lab:

of Alessandro Cellerino is hosted in the FLI based on a cooperation agreement between Scuola Normale Superiore ( Pisa/Italy) and the FLI. Alessandro Cellerino is Leibniz Chair at FLI since 2020. The main interest of Alessandro Cellerino’s group is to use the annual fish Nothobranchius furzeri to identify fundamental biological mechansims controlling aging and focussing on neurobiology and comparative biology. Previous work of the group has identified a number of candidate conserved genes with putative roles in aging whose functional relevance will now be tested in transgenic models.

Your tasks:

The candidate will generate and analyze trangenic model in killfish using Tol2 and/or CRISPR/Cas9:

• Designing and performing experimental studies using animal model killifish
• Planning and conducting animal experiments
• Analyzing, documenting and presenting experimental data and results
• Actively participating in scientific discussions and team meetings
• Taking over project responsibility and manage animal experimental applications (TVA's)
• Communication with animal welfare and the authorities
• Collaborating closely within an interdisciplinary research team

Your qualifications:

• University degree (PhD, M.D., or equivalent) in biology, life sciences, or biomedicine
• prior experience with fish transgenesis and/or experimentation involving fish
• FELASA certification and hands-on experience in planning and conducting animal experiments
• prior experience as project leader of animal experimental applications (TVA's) and communication with authorities
• Excellent teamwork and communication skills
• B2 Level in German language is advantageous
