The mission of the Leibniz Centre for Agricultural Landscape Research (ZALF) as a nationally and internationally active research institute is to deliver solutions for an ecologically, economically and socially sustainable agriculture – together with society. ZALF is a member of the Leibniz Association and is located in Müncheberg (approx. 35 minutes by regional train from Berlin-Lichtenberg). The institute maintains further locations in Brandenburg (Dedelow, Paulinenaue) as well as in Hesse (Giessen, Witzenhausen, and Geisenheim).

As part of the project “Safeguarding Overlooked Ecosystems: Protect, Manage and Restore Grasslands and Savannahs in Argentina, Colombia and Paraguay”, the Leibniz Centre for Agricultural Landscape Research (ZALF) e.V., in collaboration with World Wildlife Fund (WWF) Paraguay, is seeking to recruit for an immediate start to a:

Postgraduate Student (m/f/d) SULU_research2026_Paraguay

Candidate profile:

  • Postgraduate student in Sustainable Production, Agronomy, Biology, Ecology, Agroecology, Geography, Natural Sciences, Sociology, or Agricultural Economics, or related fields.
  • Interest in applied research and sustainable ecosystem management.
  • Fluency in Spanish and English.
  • Ability to work in a team and motivation to collaborate in international networks.

Your responsibilities:

  • Formulate and develop a research project focused on the protection, restoration, and sustainable management of grasslands and savannas in Paraguay.
  • Write a scientific article in collaboration with project partners.
  • Work closely with WWF Paraguay during the support period, through relationship building, dialogue, and coordination.
  • Strengthen ties between local universities, project partners, WWF Paraguay, and ZALF.

Requirements:

  • Letter of admission or certificate of enrollment from a local university.
  • Conceptual proposal for the research project (max. 3 pages).
  • Documents may be submitted in Spanish or English.
