The Centre for Clinical Veterinary Medicine, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, invites applications for a Full Professorship (W3) of Medicine and Surgery of Birds and Exotic Animals (Chair) commencing as soon as possible.
The successful applicant will act as the head of the Clinic for Birds, Small Mammals, Reptiles and Ornamental Fish, including
all disciplines (surgery, internal medicine, reproduction and other disciplines).
The applicant’s activities are expected to extend into teaching, research and administration as well as clinical services. The
Clinic for Birds, Small Mammals, Reptiles, and Ornamental Fish at the Oberschleissheim Campus provides excellent conditions
for implementing the vision and goals of the future Chair.
Prerequisites for this position are an outstanding personality with excellent leadership skills and longstanding clinical
experience in a discipline or subdiscipline of Minor Species’ or Poultry medicine, a university degree in veterinary medicine,
a doctoral degree or a comparable specific qualification, teaching skills at university level, excellent academic achievements,
and a productive and promising research program.
Another prerequisite is at least one of the following international board certifications: Diplomate of the European College of
Zoological Medicine (ECZM) or the American College of Exotic Pet Medi-cine (ACEPM) in at least one of the specialties (Avian
Medicine, Herpetological Medicine, Small Mammal Medicine, Wildlife Population Health, or Zoo Health Management).
Alternatively, a Diplomate certification from the European College of Poultry Veterinary Science (ECPVS) or the American
College of Poultry Veterinarians (ACPV) is accepted. Several years of experience in raising third-party financial resources from
national and international funding programs are desirable.
According to national guidelines (TAppV) the successful applicant will be responsible for teaching veterinary students.
As communication with students, staff, industry and stakeholders will require knowledge of spoken and written German, it is
pertinent for the successful candidate to demonstrate the sincere willingness to become proficient in German.
