(W-0064) Postdoctoral Position on EarthCARE-driven dynamical-systems approaches to Stratocumulus morphology

THE POSITION

Postdoctoral Position on EarthCARE-driven dynamical-systems approaches to Stratocumulus morphology (W-0064)

As a successful candidate, you will leverage concepts and methods from statistical physics to study stratocumulus and other boundary layer clouds by combining satellite data from EarthCARE and other satellites. You will join the Multiscale Cloud Physics Group led by Franziska Glassmeier.

YOUR PROFILE

We are looking for a curiosity-driven and conceptually-minded candidate who enjoys interdisciplinary science and scientific discussion. To be considered for this position, you must hold a PhD in Physics and have at least 1 year of prior postdoc experience. As a suitable candidate, you have a background in statistical physics as well as satellite remote sensing of clouds and experience with field campaign work. Your research experience must include analysis of EarthCARE as well as geostationary satellite data of stratocumulus and the evolution of their morphology. Active participation in EarthCARE-community activities will be very beneficial. We also expect you to have experience in presenting your results to the scientific community at international conferences and upon invitation and through peer-reviewed publications in international journals.

EMPLOYMENT CONDITIONS

  • The position is offered for 1 years (full time).
  • The position will start on Dec 1, 2026.
  • Payment will be in accordance with German public service positions depending on qualification (E14 TVöD) and includes extensive social security benefits. The conditions of employment, including salary progression and duration, follow the rules of the Max Planck Society for the Advancement of Science and those of the German civil service
