**Head of R&D (M/F/D)**Full-time / Unlimited Position / Flexible Working Time
Novaled GmbH is the world's leading supplier of specialist chemicals for use in organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs). Novaled's products can be found in most AMOLED displays, including smartphones, tablets, TVs and smartwatches. Novaled's main shareholder is Samsung SDI.
YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Strategic planning and management of research and development projects
- Development and responsibility for new OLED materials from concept to customer qualification
- Prioritization of projects, resources, and synthesis goals in line with corporate strategy
- Close cooperation with internal interfaces (physics, engineering, QC, sales) and external customers
- Customer project management & reporting
- Observation of technological trends and derivation of new development initiatives
- Regular reporting to management and relevant committees
- Means on detail: Technical and disciplinary management of the R&D department
- Lead p-side Group: Drive p-dopant development (analysis, design rules, strategy, target prioritization); Manage material ownership (testing, stock, registration); Align with physicists on testing and customer intros; handle customer communication (including data analysis and feedback); Material development/sampling strategy, device test prioritization, synthesis targets. Advance existing products and develop new ones.
- Lead n-side Group: handle Customer projects; develop materials and generate IP for n-side; replace tandem products with successors; broaden Novaled n-side portfolio.
- Lead Molecular Development Group: Ensuring high-productivity synthesis, reliable sample production, R&D first synthesis, scale-up to kg amounts, synthesis development, optimization, and speeding up R&D batches.
- Lead Customer Management Group: Oversee customer projects (action items tracking, radar integration with sales/marketing); prepare presentations; track decisions on material presentations; trigger/track resynthesis; manage R&D sample shipments; provide weekly reportings.
YOUR PROFILE:
- PhD or Master’s degree in Chemistry, Materials Science, Physics, or a related field, with a focus on organic electronics or semiconductors
- Several years of leadership and management experience in an industrial R&D environment, including overseeing cross-functional teams in synthesis, scale-up, and innovation
- In-depth understanding of materials synthesis, scale-up (from lab to kg), characterization, structure-property relationships, and device performance evaluation
- Extensive experience in OLED research and materials development, including mechanistic understanding and development strategies
- Strong strategic thinking, excellent problem-solving skills, high execution capability, and ability to prioritize R&D objectives aligned with business targets
- Experience in IP generation, protection, and management, as well as technical customer communication and project coordination
- Very good command of English; German language skills are a plus
The position is to be filled immediately. The hours are 40 hours per week. Please state your availability and salary expectations (gross annual salary) in your application.
