Counselor
Seasonal role | School holiday camps across Germany
At Oskar lernt Englisch, we create immersive English camps where children gain confidence, communication skills, and positive learning experiences. Our camps combine structured English instruction with well-planned activities in a safe, supportive environment.
To deliver this experience, we are looking for English-speaking Activity Leaders who enjoy taking responsibility, leading groups, and creating engaging learning moments for children aged 6–15.
At Oskar lernt Englisch, we don’t just teach English; we lead children into a wider, more exciting world.
We offer:
- A clearly defined role with responsibility and impact
- Paid training and preparation, including safeguarding guidance
- A supportive team environment with clear structures and expectations
- Accommodation and meals during camp weeks
- Competitive compensation
Camp life is full-on, but we make sure you’re supported while swinging through treetops, shooting arrows like Robin Hood, or leading kids on wild adventures. Along the way, you’ll have the opportunity to develop transferable skills in leadership and communication, group management and conflict resolution, and planning, organisation, and responsibility.
Since 2002, Oskar lernt Englisch has been helping kids aged 6 - 15 gain confidence in English by hands-on, active, and totally informal learning. After all, we learn by doing!
Your tasks:
- Lead and facilitate English sessions using our structured materials and activity-based approach
- Coordinate and guide groups of campers throughout the day (lessons, games, meals, and transitions)
- Lead activities that encourage participation, teamwork, and communication in English
- Ensure camper safety and wellbeing by following clear safeguarding and supervision guidelines
- Manage group dynamics with confidence, fairness, and consistency
- Work as part of a camp team, communicating clearly and supporting shared responsibilities
These are our requirements:
- Fluent English skills (C1/C2 level or equivalent)
- Leadership or supervisory experience, for example through:
- Teaching, tutoring, or training
- Coaching or youth work
- Camps, clubs, scouting, sports, or similar group settings
Experience with children is important - but it does not need to come from a formal teaching role. We value a wide range of leadership and mentoring backgrounds.
- A structured and responsible working style, especially in group situations
- Confidence in taking initiative and making decisions when needed
- Willingness to complete a background check for working with children (mandatory)
- Availability for at least 4 weeks per year during the German Easter, Summer, and Autumn school holidays.
- Applicants available for at least one camp week between 28 March and 12 April 2026 will be prioritized.
- Willingness and availability to complete both online and in-person training.
- In-person training takes place in Berlin over one full weekend: 13–15 March, 29–31 May, or 19–21 June. This is not remunerated, but transfer to Berlin, accommodation, meals and snacks are included. We promise to make it fun!
- Willingness to complete a first aid course.
- A valid work permit that allows freelance work in Germany (if applicable).
- Please note: We cannot interview applicants who do not already hold a valid work permit.
- If you have an appointment scheduled for your permit, please let us know the date.
- Holders of student visas with the restriction “selbstständige Tätigkeit nicht erlaubt” are generally not permitted to freelance.
- 18 years of age or older.
We understand that the interview is not just about us getting to know you, but also giving you ample opportunity to get to know us and the role. So, we like to keep things transparent:
- Send us your application. Submit your CV and a short cover letter so we can get to know you. If your child-related experience isn’t obvious on your CV, tell us all about it! Every application is read by a real, live human. No robots, no ghosting. Promise.
- Virtual meting time. If we think you’d be a great fit, we’ll reach out by email to schedule a virtual meeting. We’ll include all the info and instructions you need to fully prepare.
- Feedback guaranteed. After the interview, we’ll let you know the outcome promptly.
- Onboarding made easy. Once the formalities are done, we’ll guide you through paperwork and get you ready to hit camp as soon as possible.
We are always looking for committed and capable people who enjoy taking responsibility, leading groups, and creating engaging learning experiences.
If you are looking for a structured, active role that combines English, teamwork, and real responsibility, this could be the right opportunity for you.
