Faculty of Computer Science:
Chair of Software Engineering

In order to fill afixed-term position in full-time (41,00 hours/week = 100 %) at the earliest possible date, we are looking for two

Academic councils (m/f/x)

The Chair of Software Engineering, led by Prof. Dr. Thorsten Berger, combines foundational and applied research to automate software engineering for the next generation of intelligent, autonomous, and variant-rich software systems. We explore new ways of software creation, analysis, and evolution. Our application domains are automotive systems, systems software, software ecosystems, and mobile robots, among others.

Scope: full-time
Duration: fixed-term, 3 years

Your tasks:

  • teaching (5 SWS) with a focus on courses in Software Engineering
  • supervision of Bachelor's and Master's theses
  • collaborative research and publications within the Chair's research group
  • writing and coordinating grant applications (or contributions to applications)

Your profile:

  • Master's degree and doctorate in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field
  • Research experience around software engineering, especially in software variability management / software product lines, variability modeling, program analysis, SE4AI, AI4SE, model-driven engineering
  • Experience with engineering and empirical research methods
  • Prior publications and excellent academic references
  • Programming skills, good communication, collaboration, and self-organisation
  • Experience with teaching and supervising students
  • Experience with institutional service
  • Fluency in English

The position is on a civil servant basis and is governed by the relevant civil service regulations, in particular the Landesbeamtengesetz (LBG NRW) and the Laufbahnverordnung (LVO).
After the personal and career requirements have been met, the salary is paid in grade A13 TV-L.

The place of work is Ruhr University Bochum.

There are two full-time positions to be filled. Applications are to be written in English and need to contain: (1) cover letter expressing the applicant’s motivation, experiences, and relevant qualifications; (2) detailed curriculum vitae including publications, teaching experiences, and three references with contact details; (3) official transcripts of education certificates (degrees, including grade reports and other documents when applicable). The selection process takes place in competition. Therefore, the applicant is recommended to enclose additional information in the application, such as papers or reports authored.

RUB sees itself as a university with an international presence. The campus languages are German and English. Competence in at least one of the two languages and the willingness to learn the other are a prerequisite. RUB provides corresponding free courses for employees.
