Postdoctoral Researcher in Scientific Computing (m/f/x)
The group "Applied Numerics" at Ruhr University Bochum conducts cutting-edge mathematical research on the efficient solution of partial differential equations with applications in engineering as well as natural and medical sciences. Our group's focus is on finite element algorithms, spanning topics from novel discretization techniques with higher-order methods, efficient solution of linear and nonlinear systems of equations and the implementation on novel compute architectures such as GPUs or many-core CPUs organized in large parallel supercomputers.
As a postdoctoral research (m/f/x), you will conduct independent research in numerical mathematics with a particular emphasis on the development of provable robust methods for interface problems. You will be involved in the group's teaching and supervision in numerical mathematics on the B.Sc. and M.Sc. level.

Your tasks:
- Research in scientific computing with focus on the development of stable numerical schemes in the context of fluid flows and their efficient implementation.
- Teaching in applied mathematics and supervision of student projects (B.Sc., M.Sc. projects).
- Contribution to mathematical software projects, including the widely used finite element library deal.II, .
- Work on publications in highly ranked international journals.
- Presentation of research at international conferences and workshops.
- Participation in the acquisition and execution of third-party funded projects.
Your profile:
- Ph.D. in applied mathematics or a related field.
- Research experience with modern aspects of the finite element method.
- Prior research work on stabilized formulations for partial differential equations dominated by hyperbolic effects or interface problems is desirable.
- Experience with the implementation of numerical algorithms in modern numerical software.
- Experience in teaching and supervision of student projects with the ability to teach in German after an initial learning phase.
- Experience in organization of scientific workshops/conference minisymposia is desirable.

The position is salaried and based on the collective agreement of the Länder (TV-L). If the personal and collective agreement requirements are met, the employee will receive pay grade E13 TV-L.

The load of teaching will be calculated according to § 3 of Lehrverpflichtungsverordnung (state of North Rhine-Westphalia).
