Arithmetische Geometrie

In order to fill a fixed-term position in full-time (39.83 hours/week = 100%) 01.10.2026, we are looking for a

research associate (m,f,x) for 3 years, 39,83 hours per week, TVL E13

We have a strong and active algebra group with research activities in algebraic geometry, number theory, representation theory, algebraic groups, and combinatorics. The department provides a lively research environment with regular seminars and international collaborations. Research in arithmetic geometry is centered on the local Langlands programme and p-adic geometry. The position offers opportunities to contribute to and help shape arithmetic geometry activities within the group.

Your tasks:

  • Conduct own research
  • Preparation of publications
  • The teaching duties consist of tutorials and meetings with undergraduate students
  • Conducting seminars
  • Coorganization of meetings and workshops

Your profile:

  • Applicants must have an academic degree (completed PhD) in a relevant mathematical field in algebra. Research experience in p-adic geometry and in topics related to the (local or geometric) Langlands programme is mandatory.
  • The appointee will be required to contribute to the teaching portfolio of the department (4 hours per week).

The position is salaried and based on the collective agreement of the Länder (TV-L). If the personal and collective agreement requirements are met, the employee will receive pay grade TV-L E13 TV-L.

The place of work is Ruhr University Bochum.

The load of teaching will be calculated according to § 3 of Lehrverpflichtungsverordnung (state of North Rhine-Westphalia).

RUB sees itself as a university with an international presence. The campus languages are German and English. Competence in at least one of the two languages and the willingness to learn the other are a prerequisite. RUB provides corresponding free courses for employees.
