Research associate (m/f/x) - Plant Biochemistry

The research interests of the Chair of Plant Biochemistry are fundamental processes involved in chloroplast differentiation and development, as well as the operational regulation of chloroplast functions. The advertised position is focused on protein import and its impact on chloroplast biogenesis and photosynthetic performance.

Scope: part-time
Duration: fixed-term, 3 years

Your tasks:

  • Generation of Arabidopsis mutant plant lines
  • Investigation of phenotypes and plastid protein import characteristics
  • Functional biochemical characterization of proteins and translocon protein complexes and their assembly
  • Quantitative mass spectrometry
  • Elucidation of the involvement of protein import in biotic and abiotic stress responses
  • Writing publications and presenting results at (inter)national research conferences
  • Participation in teaching responsibilities of the Chair

Your profile:

  • Completed university degree (Master of Science) in Biology or Biochemistry
  • Basic practical experience in biochemical, molecular biology or cell biology techniques
  • Enjoyment of working with plants
  • High level of motivation, keen to learn new skills and to work cooperatively in a team

Further information:

The position is salaried and based on the collective agreement of the Länder (TV-L). If the personal and collective agreement requirements are met, the employee will receive pay grade E13 TV-L.

The place of work is Ruhr University Bochum.

If the position is funded by third-party funds the employee has no teaching obligation.

RUB sees itself as a university with an international presence. The campus languages are German and English. Competence in at least one of the two languages and the willingness to learn the other are a prerequisite. RUB provides corresponding free courses for employees.
