The professorship will be assigned to the newly established Center for Data Science and Artificial Intelligence. Depending on individual qualifications, the appointment may be made either as a civil servant or an employee under salary grade W1/W2/W3. Depending on suitability, an initial temporary appointment may also be considered.
Applicants are expected to cover teaching, research and service in artificial intelligence (AI) in veterinary medicine and biology.
The successful candidate should perform research and develop innovative AI models and methodologies with applications in veterinary medicine and biology. In veterinary medicine, research priorities include AI models based on data from clinics, imaging, pathology, sensor technology, and animal welfare, with potential contributions to improved diagnostics. Close collaboration with scientists from the TiHo clinics is expected to facilitate the transfer of such models into clinical application. Additional research focus areas with relevance to biology should be considered. The acquisition of independent third-party funding is required, along with active participation in existing research networks at TiHo and a willingness to contribute to the establishment of new research consortia.
In teaching, the candidate is expected to contribute to veterinary medicine curriculum, the master’s program "Animal Biology and Biomedical Sciences," and TiHo’s PhD programs. This includes expanding existing curricula to include AI and its applications. Contributions to current teaching in biometrics and scientific programming are particularly welcome.
At TiHo, there are already various data science consulting services (including biometrics, epidemiology, and research data management). The professorship should complement these by offering services and consultations in AI.
Applicants must have an international research profile with several years of experience, demonstrated by excellent publications and independent third-party funding in modern AI technologies with applications in veterinary medicine or biology. Experience with (inter)national collaborations as well as with respectful and collaborative leadership and management skills are also expected.
