At the University of Hildesheim, the Institute for Mathematics, Mathematics Education and Computer Science Education – IMMI, Faculty 4: Mathematics, Natural Sciences, Economics and Computer Science, has a vacancy to be filled at the earliest possible data for a position as

Scientific Employee - (m/f/d) (TV-L E 13, 100%)

for an initial period of three years.

Your tasks:

  • Research: independent work (in theory and software implementation) on research questions in the area of the mathematical analysis of network data, examples for possible topics are:
  • Non-parametric Bayesian estimation in models for interactions on networks or
  • mathematical analysis of graphon models or
  • development and mathematical analysis of realistic models for interactions using Hawkes Processes.
  • Presentation of research results on national and international workshops and conferences.
  • Teaching exercise classes, seminars, and practical classes (teacher education GHR, service Computer Science, Business Information Systems oder Data Analytics) with a teaching load of 4 contact hours per week (LVS).
  • Independent research activities aimed at further academic qualification
  • Willingness to extend didactic abilities

Your profile:

  • Essential selection criteria
  • Very good university degree (master or equivalent) in a programme with mathematical or data analytical focus, e.g., Mathematics, Statistics, Business Mathematics or a programme with similar contents.
  • Advanced knowledge in probability theory and/or statistics
  • Ability wo conduct independent scientific work (proofed by, e.g., a self-written thesis)
  • Ability and willingness to share the obtained results, e.g., in presentations on conferences
  • Desirable selection criteria
  • Experiences in writing program code (ideally in R and/or C)
  • Advanced knowledge (acquired, e.g., through a Master's thesis or a Master's-level course) in at least one of the following areas: nonparametric statistics, Bayesian statistics, counting processes, asymptotic statistics, or statistical network analysis
  • Ability to teach courses in German from the second year onward
