We offer a

W2 Professorship for Medicinal and Pharmaceutical Chemistry (Synthetic Medicinal Chemistry)

The appointment is for the earliest possible date.

Your responsibilities

The professorship is intended to represent the full scope of Medicinal and Pharmaceutical Chemistry at Technische Universität Braunschweig. The professorship is to focus primarily on the area of ‘Synthetic Medicinal Chemistry’. This includes, for example, structure-based design, the identification of hit and lead structures, structural optimisation through organic synthesis, and the analysis of structure-activity relationships. Integration into the core research area “Engineering for Health – From Molecules to Processes” and into activities at the Centre for Pharmaceutical Process Engineering (PVZ) at Technische Universität Braunschweig, as well as collaboration with non-university research institutions, such as the Helmholtz Centre for Infection Research (HZI), is desirable.

The successful candidate (f/m/d) is expected to be committed to the university’s strategic goals and to actively shape its holistic development (). In addition to the classic service areas of a university (research, teaching and studies, transfer, governance and administration), this applies in particular to digitalisation, internationalisation, equality and diversity, as well as knowledge exchange.

Essential selection criteria

  • Internationally renowned researcher in the field of Medicinal and Pharmaceutical Chemistry
  • Research focus and in-depth knowledge of Synthetic Medicinal Chemistry
  • University degree with a focus on a field relevant to the life sciences (e.g., pharmacy, chemistry, biochemistry)
  • Experience in securing external funding
  • Strong teamwork skills, management, and leadership abilities
  • Teaching experience
  • Willingness to teach in the state examination programme in Pharmacy, particularly with regard to basic training in Organic Chemistry, and to participate in Bachelor’s and Master’s degree programmes established in collaboration with the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering
  • Willingness to engage in interdisciplinary collaboration
  • Willingness to contribute to improving the internationalisation and international visibility of Technische Universität Braunschweig
  • Willingness to participate in academic self-administration

Desirable selection criteria

  • A license to practice as a pharmacist is an advantage

International research and teaching experience, excellent command of the English language, as well as the ability and willingness to teach courses in English are a prerequisite.

Individual career decisions and career breaks due to parental/family care leave affecting research output will be taken into account by the appointment committee.

  • A degree in a relevant field
  • Pedagogical aptitude
  • Special qualification for in-depth independent scientific work, as a rule proven by an above-average doctorate
  • Additional academic achievements, usually within the framework of a junior professorship, a post-doctoral degree (Habilitation) or through achievements equivalent to a Habilitation
