The Faculty of Engineering and Economics of the Clausthal University of Technology is seeking to appoint the Position of

Junior Professor (Salary Scale W1 NBesO) with Tenure Track (leading to Salary Scale W2 NBesO) "Drilling Technology for Geo-Energy Systems" (m/f/d)

at the Institute of Energy Systems and Process Technology (ISPT), starting as soon as possible.

In addition to a university degree in a natural science or engineering program you have an above-average doctorate and you are identified by research accomplishments or practical work in the field of Deep Drilling Geo-Energy Systems with a focus on at least one of the following areas:

• Experimental investigation or modelling of drilling operations including near well-bore processes
• Innovative downhole tools and deep drilling machinery
• Deep well planning, escpecially considering geological and geophysical boundary conditions
• Innovations in downhole sensing
• Real time operations for process optimization applying data driven approaches including AI

Industrial experience in the field of deep drilling is appreciated.

An interdisciplinary collaboration is expected with regard to the development of integrated solutions of deep wells for energetic purposes and fluid mechanical context. Further, internal collaboration with complementary research areas at TU Clausthal shall be aimed for. Therefore, the candidate shall demonstrate experience in collaborating in interdisciplinary projects of applied fundamental research.

Regarding teaching, the candidate is expected to develop and carry out lecture and practical courses in the area of deep drilling technology, especially in internationally oriented courses. Therefore, he/she shall be capable and ready to give lectures in English and German language. Further, willingness for participation in the academic self-management is expected.

The requirements of the position are defined in Section 30 of the Niedersachsen Higher Education Act (Niedersächsisches Hochschulgesetz NHG). Junior professors are appointed to a fixed term of three years (in line with § 30 Abs. 4 of the Niedersachsen Higher Education Act, NHG). In case of a positive evaluation of this term, the appointment can be extended by up to three additional years. After at most five years overall, the tenure-track evaluation process as outlined in the "Tenure Track Ordnung der TU Clausthal" (Ordnung zur Gewährung einer Professur auf Lebenszeit im Tenure Track-Verfahren) can be initiated. In case of a positive outcome and in compliance with applicable laws and regulations, the junior professorship will be converted to a permanent professorship (Salary Scale W2).
