Clausthal University of Technology is a modern profile university focused on the Circular Economy. The guiding theme with its characteristics of resource-efficient circular economy, sustainable materials, renewable energies and digital control of the overall system is a recurrent theme throughout the university. At Clausthal University of Technology, we research, teach and work to build a sustainable society in the digital age. Founded in 1775, students in the Harz region have been successfully educated in the natural sciences, engineering and economics as well as computer science and mathematics for around 250 years. Approximately 80 professors, 3,000 students and 1,100 employees enjoy short distances, a personal atmosphere and the varied landscape in the middle of a UNESCO World Heritage Site. We are known for our close contact with students. The research-intensive university, with its excellent national and international network, is the most important economic factor in the region.

The Faculty of Science of the Clausthal University of Technology is seeking to appoint the Position of

Junior Professor (Salary Scale W1 NBesO) with Tenure Track (leading to Salary Scale W2 NBesO) "Security and Generative AI" (m/f/d)

at the Institute for Software and Systems Engineering starting as soon as possible.

The requirements of the position are defined in Section 30 of the Niedersachsen Higher Education Act (Niedersächsisches Hochschulgesetz NHG). Junior professors are appointed to a fixed term of three years (in line with § 30 Abs. 4 of the Niedersachsen Higher Education Act, NHG). In case of a positive evaluation of this term, the appointment can be extended by up to three additional years. After at most five years overall, the tenure-track evaluation process as outlined in the "Tenure Track Ordnung der TU Clausthal" (Ordnung zur Gewährung einer Professur auf Lebenszeit im Tenure Track-Verfahren) can be initiated. In case of a positive outcome and in compliance with applicable laws and regulations, the junior professorship will be converted to a permanent professorship (Salary Scale W2).

You fit in with us if:

We require expertise in the following areas of research:

  1. Security of generative Al systems (e.g., attack detection, robustness, privacy, trust)

  2. Using generative Al for security

The applicant should also have substantial research experience in another related research area, such as one or more of the following areas:

  1. Model interpretability / explainable Al (XAI) / trust in security-related applications

  3. Monitoring and verification/validation of Al-based systems at runtime

  4. Trustworthy Al engineering (including certification & tracability)

  5. DevSecOps and security in an MLOps context

The primary objective is to develop, in the medium term, a research-intensive and externally well-funded research area in the aforementioned fields.

Within the university, the professorship should actively contribute to the "Digitalization for a Sustainable Society" research field and thus strengthen the digitalization-related research profile of our engineering sciences and computer science institutes. We expect the appointed applicant to become an active member of the Center for Digital Technologies (DIGIT). This includes in particular the participation in the bachelor, master and further education programs of the joint study program Digital Technologies as well as the further development of this study program, which Clausthal University of Technology and the Ostfalia University of Applied Sciences offer in cooperation. Additionally, the appointee will have the opportunity to contribute to the DIGIT with own research projects, most notably in an application-oriented context at the digitalization laboratories of the DIGIT.

Experience in the acquisition of third-party funded projects is expected.

The successful applicant is responsible for the organization and development of the teaching and research portfolios of the professorship.
