The Institute of Public Health, Medical Decision Making and Health Technology Assessment of the Department of Public Health, Health Services Research and Health Technology Assessment is currently seeking to appoint a

PhD Student / Junior Researcher in Public Health, Medical Decision Analysis and Evidence-based Medicine

to commence as soon as possible and initially limited to three years in full-time or part-time (100%, 75% or 50%); an extension is possible and is being sought.

The position is associated with the EUCanScreen project and other research projects in the field of public health decision science and health technology assessment and initially limited to three years. An extension is possible.

The general objective of EUCanScreen is “to assure sustainable implementation of high-quality screening for breast, cervical and colorectal cancer as well as implementation of the recently recommended screening programs – for lung, prostate and gastric cancers. EUCanScreen will facilitate the reduction of cancer burden and achieving equity across the EU.” Subprojects at UMIT TIROL have a strong focus on ensuring full implementation of evidence-based, cost-effective and quality-assured screening programs for breast, cervical and colorectal cancers and preparation for further implementation of evidence-based cost-effective and quality-assured screening programs including lung and prostate cancers. Additional projects include the FWF project MeDeMSA, where we advance personalized diagnostics and therapies for multiple system atrophy (MSA).

We are seeking support in systematic decision analysis and health technology assessment to evaluate the short- and long-term benefits, harms, costs, and equity of health care interventions. The goal is to support screening and care decisions and to enable earlier, more accurate diagnosis to improve health and quality of life of people

Your tasks:

• Participation in the Institute’s national and international research projects (main fields: Public Health, Prevention, Epidemiology, Outcomes Research, Chronic Diseases, Personalized Cancer Medicine, Nutrition, Health Technology Assessment for National HTA Authorities)
• Performing scientific analyses (decision-analytic modelling, systematic reviews, epidemiologic and evidence-based evaluations, development of fact boxes and recommendations)
• Collaborating in development and implementation of quality assurance, as well as data collection, management, and preparation
• Conducting interim analyses and reporting as well as participating in publications in international peer-reviewed journals
• Involvement in teaching and educational organization, for example, in the areas of Public Health and Health Data & Decision Science, the UMIT TIROL Academy Program, and in continuing education measures

Your profile:

• Successful candidates will hold a Master’s degree or PhD preferably in public health, epidemiology, biostatistics, data science, applied mathematics, informatics or in an equivalent field
• Additional qualification or professional experience in quantitative methods in epidemiology or biostatistics, causal inference and machine learning or artificial intelligence would be an advantage
• Ability to efficiently manage tasks in parallel, carefully and systematically, and to communicate research results to various audiences.
• A proven ability to work effectively within a team to achieve timely and valued objectives.
• Commitment to interdisciplinary team-oriented research
• Good written and oral English language skills
• Experience in statistical analysis with R, SAS, STATA, or SPSS etc. and literature management software (e.g., EndNote)

The salary is based on the salary group scheme of UMIT TIROL and amounts to at least € 2.700,- (full-time). An overpayment is possible depending on qualifications and experience.
