Junior Professorship (W1) for Health Care Management

Responsibilities

The Faculty of Business Administration (Hamburg Business School) is seeking a junior professor (W1) of Health Care Management. The junior professorship is funded by third-party grants from the project Evaluation of the Model Project on Genome Sequencing for Rare and Oncological Diseases (EGSOE), conducted at the Hamburg Center for Health Economics (HCHE) on behalf of the GKV-Spitzenverband. The professorship is based at the HCHE and contributes to the Faculty’s focus on health economics research.

Its responsibilities include:

  • representing the field in research and teaching
  • contributing to the University’s emerging field “Health Economics”
  • participating in the associated evaluation of the Genome Sequencing Model Project (EGSOE)
  • assuming responsibility for project implementation, including professional supervision of research assistants
  • collaborating on research activities and securing third-party funding at the HCHE
  • participating in teaching in the curriculum of the Faculty of Business Administration, particularly in the area of health care management, for 4 teaching hours per week during the initial phase of employment

Your profile

This junior professorship is aimed at early career researchers. Ideally, you will have an outstanding academic track record and research experience in at least two of the following fields:

  • Health services research and evaluation of complex health care models
  • Health economics (particularly behavioral and experimental economics, as well as preferences and decision-making in the health care context)
  • comparisons of health systems and policy
  • quantitative empirical methods (e.g., experimental designs, survey research, econometric methods)

Applicants are expected to:

  • have an outstanding doctorate
  • have publications in relevant, peer-reviewed journals
  • have international research experience as well as a willingness to take on responsibility in an interdisciplinary collaborative project
  • hold a doctorate completed less than 4 years prior (a standard period of 2 years per child granted for parental and care leave)

Ideally, you will also have:

  • experience with the analysis of health insurance data, international health services research, or the evaluation of health care programs

Junior professorships will be appointed initially for a period of 3 years and, subsequent to a positive evaluation, extended for an additional 3 years.
