Research Associate at the Chair of Software Engineering § 28 Subsection 1 HmbHG (2 positions)

Salary level: EGR. 13 TV-L

Start date: as soon as possible, fixed for a period of three years. (This is a fixed-term contract in accordance with Section 2 of the academic fixed-term labor contract act [Wissenschaftszeitvertragsgesetz, WissZeitVG]).

Your responsibilities

Research associates will be expected primarily to teach and conduct research. The research associate will also have the opportunity to pursue further academic qualifications, in particular a doctoral dissertation. At least one-third of set working hours will be made available for the research associate’s own academic work.

The primary duties include teaching courses amounting to 4 contact hours per week in the field of computer science at Universität Hamburg.

The research activities are situated in the field of software engineering, with a particular focus on secure software engineering for AI-integrated systems and software engineering for edge AI. The successful candidate is expected to actively contribute to academic research projects with the aim of developing their own research results and publishing them at international conferences.

Your profile

A university degree in a relevant field.

Applicants are expected to have:

  • a very good academic university degree at Master’s level with above-average academic performance in computer science, artificial intelligence, IT security, software engineering, or a related field
  • a strong interest in academic research at the intersection of artificial intelligence, software engineering, and IT security
  • existing experience in academic research, for example through final theses, research projects, or academic publications, is an advantage
  • the motivation to address real-world and socially relevant problems through rigorous, methodologically sound research
  • enthusiasm for developing practical systems, tools, prototypes, and empirical studies
  • curiosity, initiative, and an independent and structured way of working
  • an interest in international research, academic exchange, and publishing research results at international conferences
  • very good written and spoken English skills; German language skills are an advantage
