Research Associate (Postdoc) for the Project “Understanding molecular dynamics with femtosecond optical and X-ray spectroscopy in condensed phases” § 28 Subsection 3 HmbHG

Salary level: EGR. 13 TV-L

Start date: 01.06.2026, fixed until 31.03.2028 (This is a fixed-term contract in accordance with Section 2 of the academic fixed-term labor contract act [Wissenschaftszeitvertragsgesetz, WissZeitVG]).

Your responsibilities

Duties primarily include teaching and research. Research associates may also pursue further academic qualifications outside of their work responsibilities.

  • teaching (25% of work hours [4 LVS], preferably in German, English possible)
  • building femtosecond spectroscopy instrumentation (incl. Interfacing with software)
  • experimental project design (incl. Literature research)
  • data analysis and simulations (e.g. Python, Matlab, DFT codes)
  • publication: Preparation and submission of publications, participation in conferences

Your profile

A university degree in a relevant field plus doctorate.

Required academic degrees

  • completed university degree (diploma/master's degree) in physics, chemistry or related disciplines, with a completed scientific doctoral degree

Required expertise

  • knowledge and experience in more than one of the following areas:
  • research with pulsed lasers (preferably femtosecond lasers)
  • operating femtosecond laser spectrometers (incl. maintenance, safety aspects)
  • design and setup of optical instrumentation (incl. computer interfacing, DAQ programs)
  • non-linear optics and nonlinear spectroscopy methods

Good publication record, willingness to teach in undergraduate physics and interdisciplinary (physics/chemistry) programs as well as to co-supervise BSc/MSc/PhD students, excellent communication skills in English, pronounced sense of responsibility, outstanding motivation to work as an experimentalist.
