Doctoral Student in Sociology

### (Part-time 75 %, Salary Scale E 13 TV-L, 4 years)

Reference Number 2026/081. The working group of “Sociology – Social Movements” as part of the Cluster of Excellence “The Politics of Inequality” invites applications for a doctoral position for a duration of up to 48 months starting in June 2026 (or later).

The University of Konstanz is a dynamic and internationally successful research university with approximately 10,000 students. The campus university’s architecture promotes interdisciplinary cooperation and a sense of community among researchers, lecturers and students. The University of Konstanz has been continuously funded by the German Excellence Strategy since 2006.

The working group of “Sociology – Social Movements” led by Prof. Dr. Sebastian Koos investigates the determinants and consequences of political protest, civic engagement and solidarity, including forms of helping and altruistic behavior. We study this in the context of social problems, such as inequality, climate change or threats to democracy, often from an international comparative perspective.

Your Responsibilities

  • Interest in research in political sociology, social movements, pro-social behaviour, or environmental sociology
  • Master’s degree in Sociology (or related field)
  • Very good knowledge of quantitative methods and survey research
  • Good English writing and communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and contribute proactively and constructively to team-based research
