Research Assistant (Doctoral Researcher/PhD)
The position is offered for a period of 3 years, if no former times of qualification must be considered. The starting date is as soon as possible. The position is part-time (75% of regular working hours) with salary and benefits commensurate with a public service position in the state Hesse, Germany (TV-H E 13, 75%).
Tasks:
- Collaboration on research projects of the research group, particularly on the topics of risk & vulnerability, health insurance, and adaptation to climate change in the Global South
- Independent research with the aim of a doctorate in the field of sustainable development
- Participation in the preparation and independent delivery of courses in the Bachelor's and Master's programs, primarily in English, with the possibility of teaching in German
- Supervision of student theses
- Participation in administrative tasks within the research group
- Scientific services in research and teaching
The position is limited to a time period deemed adequate for the completion of a doctoral degree. As part of the assigned duties, there will be ample opportunity to conduct the independent scientific research necessary for the completion of a doctorate. The limitation complies to Section 2(1) of the German Academic Fixed-Term Contract Act (WissZeitVG).
Profile:
- MSc-degree or equivalent in Economics or related fields (e.g., Political Science or Statistics)
- Enthusiasm and aptitude for academic research as well as for contributing to teaching
- Solid knowledge of econometric methods, experience with statistical software programs (e.g., Stata, R), and basic mathematical competence
- Experience in the thematic areas of risk & vulnerability, health insurance, climate models & simulation, adaptation to climate change, and development economics is an advantage
- Teamwork skills, communication competence, and a high level of commitment
- Very good written and spoken English skills; German language skills are a significant advantage
Disposition to own scientific qualification (e.g. a doctorate project in the area of sustainable development) is expected.
