The applicant is expected to strengthen the research priorities of the Department of Biology by establishing an independent research group that actively participates in ongoing collaborative research initiatives at the Department of Biology, e.g. the Cluster of Excellence “Microbes for Climate” (M4C), current LOEWE priority programs, the SFB/TRR 440 “smART” or the RTG 2937 “MiNu”, and to contribute to future research initiatives in the priority areas of Marburg University.
This call is explicitly aimed at researchers in the early stages of their scientific careers. The duration of the em-ployment in research and science after obtaining the doctoral degree should not exceed four years, excluding family duties. In addition, applicants should not have received their doctorate at Marburg University. In case the doctoral degree was obtained at Marburg University, the applicant should have worked in research and science outside of Marburg University for at least two years thereafter (in accordance with § 70 Abs. 3 Hessisches Hochschulgesetz Hess.HG, the State of Hessen Higher Education Act).
We are looking for a highly qualified, internationally visible scientist with initial outstanding scientific achievements and an independent scientific profile that demonstrates the potential for a further successful career in science at the highest international level. The candidate should broadly investigate or manipulate the molecular basis of fundamental processes in microorganisms, encompassing diverse topics such as gene expression control, metabolic control, energy generation, transport processes, or resource allocation, among others.
The professorship is involved in teaching basic and advanced modules of Genetics in the BSc and MSc programs offered by the Department of Biology in German and English.
A completed university degree in Biology, Biochemistry or a related discipline and an outstanding doctorate as well as proven teaching skills, are required. Experience in the successful acquisition of third-party funds will be considered an asset.
The employment requirements according to Sections 67, 68 and especially 70 of the Hessian Higher Education Act (Hessisches Hochschulgesetz - HessHG) apply. The Tenure Track professorship is initially a grade W1 fixed term (6 years) position. If the requirements under general German civil service law are met, the applicant shall be granted a temporary civil service status for a period of six years. In the event of a positive evaluation of the pro-fessional, didactic and personal aptitude, the applicant will be granted a civil service status for life, combined with the assignment of a W2 permanent professorship.
