The Institute of Organic Chemistry at the University of Münster, Germany, is seeking to fill the position of a

Doctoral Research Associate (Wissenschaftlicher Mitarbeiterin salary level E 13 TV-L)

commencing on 1 January 2027. We are offering two fixed-term part-time position (50%) until 31 December 2029. Full-time employees are required to teach 4 hours per week during the semester.

Your tasks:

  • Participation in research and teaching
  • Development of novel synthetic methodologies for the efficient synthesis and functionalization of exotic Csp3-rich scaffolds with potential applications in medicinal chemistry
  • Design of experiments, systematic reaction optimization, exploration of the scope and limitations of the newly developed methodologies
  • Comprehensive structural characterization and routine analysis of the synthesized compounds using modern analytical techniques (1D/2D-NMR, HRMS, X-ray, HPLC)
  • Guidance and support of Bachelor’s and Master’s students in their projects
  • Active participation in research group seminars
  • Presentation of research results at national and international conferences (posters / oral presentations)
  • Preparation and writing of scientific publications
  • This position is tied to working towards a doctorate (50%)

Our expectations:

  • Completed university degree (Master’s or equivalent) in Chemistry, with a specialization in organic chemistry
  • Strong motivation to perform independent scientific research as part of a doctoral program
  • Excellent written and spoken English skills
  • Strong knowledge and practical experience in the field of organic chemistry
  • Proficiency in modern analytical techniques for structural elucidation
  • Experience with DFT calculations (an advantage)
  • Basic knowledge of medicinal chemistry
