The Department for Quantum Technology in the Faculty of Physics at the University of Münster, Germany, is seeking to fill the position of a

Doctoral Research Associate (Wissenschaftlicher Mitarbeiterin, salary level E 13 TV-L 67%)

in Quantum Error Correction for Quantum Networks, for the externally funded project Q-SCALAR (Quantum Futur project funded by BMFTR—Federal Ministry of Research, Technology and Space) at the earliest possible date. We are offering a fixed-term (67%) for 3 years.

Your tasks:

  • This position is tied to working towards a doctorate
  • Contribute to the scientific objectives and milestones of the Q-SCALAR project.
  • Conduct research in quantum error correction for future quantum communication networks
  • Develop and analyze novel quantum error-correcting codes and fault-tolerant communication protocols.
  • Investigate the use of multipartite entanglement, graph states, Absolutely Maximally Entangled (AME) states, and high-dimensional quantum systems (qudits) in quantum networks.
  • Perform analytical and numerical studies of quantum information processing and quantum communication tasks.
  • Publish research results in leading international journals and present them at scientific conferences.
  • Collaborate with researchers within the Q-SCALAR project as well as with national and international academic and industrial partners

Our expectations:

  • Collaborate with researchers within the Q-SCALAR project as well as with national and international academic and industrial partners
  • Prior training in quantum information science or quantum computing is required.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills are required
  • Proficiency in written and spoken English is required

The following qualifications are desirable:

  • Knowledge of quantum error correction, quantum communication, fault-tolerant quantum computing, or multipartite entanglement theory.
  • Familiarity with stabilizer formalisms and related quantum-state representations.
  • Experience with analytical calculations and numerical simulations (e.g., Python, Julia, Mathematica, or similar)
  • Ability to contribute effectively to collaborative research projects in an international environment.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills
