The Department for Quantum Technology in the Faculty of Physics at the University of Münster, Germany, is seeking to fill the position of a

Doctoral Research Associate (Wissenschaftlicher Mitarbeiterin, salary level E 13 TV-L 67%)

in the area of Graph States, Entanglement and Quantum Computation within an externally funded research project supported by the German-Israeli Foundation for Scientific Research and Development (GIF), at the earliest possible date. We are offering a fixed-term position for three years.

Your tasks:

  • Conduct research in quantum information theory, with a particular focus on multipartite entanglement, graph states, and quantum computation.
  • Develop analytical and numerical methods for the study and characterization of multipartite entanglement and graph states
  • Investigate the structure and properties of multipartite entanglement and its applications in quantum information processing.
  • Study efficient methods for the generation and manipulation of graph states, including photonic graph-state architectures.
  • Perform analytical calculations and numerical simulations in quantum information theory.
  • Publish research results in international scientific journals and present them at conferences and workshops.
  • Collaborate with researchers at the University of Münster and Tel Aviv University through regular meetings and funded research visits.
  • The position is associated with the completion of a doctoral research project (PhD).

Our expectations:

  • A Master's degree (or equivalent) in Physics, Mathematics, or a closely related field is required by the start date of the position.
  • A strong background in quantum information theory is required.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills are required.
  • Proficiency in written and spoken English is required.
  • Team-oriented working style.
  • Strong communication and organisational skills.
  • Scientific writing and presentation skills.

The following qualifications are desirable:

  • Knowledge of multipartite entanglement theory, graph states, stabilizer formalisms, or quantum computation.
  • Experience with analytical calculations and numerical simulations (e.g., Python, Julia, Mathematica, MATLAB, or similar).
  • Previous research experience in quantum information science (e.g., through a Master’s thesis or research project) is desirable.
  • Experience working in collaborative research projects or international research environments.
