The international research training group “Functional π-Systems: Activation, Interaction and Application” based at the University of Münster () offers interesting research opportunities in various fields with a focus on functional π-systems.

The Institute for Inorganic and Analytical Chemistry in the Faculty 12, Faculty of Chemistry and Pharmacy, at the University of Münster, Germany, is seeking to fill the position of a

Doctoral Research Associate (Wissenschaftlicher Mitarbeiterin, salary level E 13 TV-L)

for the externally funded project “Functional pi-Systems: Activation, Interaction and Application” (IRTG 2678) commencing on 01 January 2027. We are offering a fixed-term part-time position (67 %) for 3 years in the working group of JProf. Dr. Lilian Szych. Full-time employees are required to teach 4 hours per week during the semester.

Your tasks:

  • Collaborating in the externally funded project of the IRTG 2678
  • Carrying out independent research
  • Part of the research work (6 months) must take place in one of the partner laboratories at Nagoya University
  • Actively participating in the IRTG 2678 qualification programme
  • This position is tied to working towards a doctorate
  • Providing students with subject-related expertise and instruction on applying scientific methods

Our expectations:

  • A university degree (master's/German Diplom/State Examination) in chemistry with a focus on inorganic synthetic chemistry is required.
  • Good command of written and spoken English ideally demonstrated by a period spent abroad is required.
  • Substantial experience in and knowledge of the field of inorganic chemistry is required, including
  • standard analytical methods for inorganic chemical samples (NMR, IR, SC-XRD, P-XRD)
  • working under inert conditions (Schlenk line, glove box)
  • quantum chemical calculations using, for example, ORCA
  • coordination chemistry of main-group element compound
  • Theoretical and practical experience in research is required in the following areas:
  • the synthesis of phosphorus containing ligand systems
  • the synthesis and characterization of Lewis-acidic compounds
  • the synthesis and characterization of photoswitchable compound
  • Experience in supervising students in chemistry programs as part of experimental laboratory courses in inorganic chemistry is required.
