The Institute of Solid State Theory in the Faculty of Physics at the University of Münster, Germany, is seeking to fill the position of a

Postdoctoral Research Associate (Wissenschaftlicher Mitarbeiterin, salary level E 13 TV-L)

commencing on 1 December 2026. We are offering a fixed-term full-time position for 2 years. Full-time employees are required to teach 4 hours per week during the semester.

Your tasks:

• Conduct independent and collaborative research in the field of theoretical condensed matter physics, with a particular focus on unconventional magnetism, magnetic excitations, and excitons within the framework of ab-initio simulations.
• Conduct research and contribute to teaching activities in collaboration with the research groups of Prof. Dr. Michael Rohlfing, PD Dr. Thorsten Deilmann, and Prof. Dr. Alexander Mook.
• Publish research results in leading international journals and present them at scientific conferences.
• Contribute to the acquisition of third-party research funding.
• Supervise Bachelor's, Master's, and, where appropriate, doctoral students.
• Support teaching activities, including tutorials, seminars, and project supervision.

Our expectations:

• A PhD degree in Physics or comparable qualification is required at the start (or the first few months) of the employment.
• A graduate degree in Physics (i.e. German Diplom and / or master’s degree) or comparable qualification is required.
• Expert knowledge of unconventional magnetism (e.g., altermagnetism), as well as proven skills in the development and application of first-principles many-body perturbation theory for calculating strong correlated materials and magnetic excitations, is required
• Excellent command of written and spoken English is advantageous.
• German language skills would be advantageous but are not a requirement.
• Strong organizational and communication skills
• Motivation to contribute to an internationally visible research environment.
