The Institute of Physical Chemistry in the Faculty of Chemistry and Pharmacy at the University of Münster, Germany, is seeking to fill the position in the research group of Prof. Dr. Björn Braunschweig of a

Postdoctoral Research Associate (Wissenschaftlicher Mitarbeiterin, salary level E 13 TV-L)

to commence on 01.10.2026. We are offering the fixed-term full-time position for 12 months. Full-time employees are required to teach 4 hours per week during the semester.

Your tasks:

  • Nonlinear optical spectroscopy for the in situ characterization of proteins, polymers, and photoswitchable surfactants at soft-matter interfaces.
  • Further development of, and assistance with, the construction of a new spectrometer for time resolved spectroscopy at interfaces.
  • Documentation, presentation, and publication of research results at international conferences and in leading scientific journals.

Our expectations:

  • A university degree in chemistry or physics (Master's degree) and a Ph.D. in chemistry or physics are required.
  • Experience in nonlinear optical spectroscopy.
  • Strong motivation, scientific curiosity, and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Solid written and spoken English skills.
  • Experience in optical spectroscopy is desirable.
  • Knowledge of physical chemistry, as well as the chemistry of soft-matter materials and interfaces, is an advantage.
