The Institute of Physics in the Faculty of Physics at the University of Münster (Germany) seeks to fill the following tenured position at the earliest possible date:

Professorship (W3-level) in “Experimental Physics” with a research focus on “Magnetism and Transport Phenomena in Emergent Solid-State-Based Quantum Systems”

The prospective appointee should be distinguished by internationally outstanding research in the field of experimental physics of modern solid-state-based magnetic materials or magnetic hybrid structures, e.g. altermagnets, non-collinear magnetic materials and corresponding interfaces. The study of these magnetic quantum systems focuses specifically on transport processes, as well as elementary interactions and collective excitations that govern the behaviour of such systems. These (hybrid) quantum systems are to be embedded in functional circuits, in which more than one degree of freedom (charge, spin, lattice, light) and/or their collective excitations (magnon, phonon, exciton, charge density wave) are addressed.

The candidate’s research programme should strengthen, complement and expand on the existing research activities in the field of nano- and quantum sciences at the University of Münster, particularly with respect to coordinated funding programmes. We expect the candidate to actively participate in current and future research priorities within the Faculty of Physics such as Q-SET (Center for Quantum Science, Education and Technology). Collaboration with existing interdisciplinary research centers - the Center for Nanotechnology (CeNTech), the Center for Soft Nanoscience (SoN), the Collaborative Research Centre 1459 "Intelligent Matter: From Responsive to Adaptive Nanosystems" and the Center for Data Science and Complexity (CDSC) - is desired. The prospective candidate is expected to represent the full scope of experimental physics in teaching and to participate as appropriate in the academic self-governance of the University. Applications from early-career researchers are expressly encouraged.

To be considered for this position, the candidate should hold a graduate degree and subject-relevant doctorate and possess outstanding teaching skills and advanced academic achievements. Moreover, the candidate must have academic achievements made as a Juniorprofessor (assistant professor), in a Habilitation (postdoctoral qualification), as a member of the academic staff of a university or non-university research institute, or in a research position in business, industry, administration or other relevant fields in Germany or abroad.
