The Institute of Pharmaceutical and Medicinal Chemistry at the University of Münster seeks to fill the following position, scheduled to commence in the winter semester 2027/2028:

Professorship (W3-level) in “Pharmaceutical and Medicinal Chemistry”

**The prospective appointee shall be responsible for the full scope of research and teaching activities in the subject of pharmaceutical and medicinal chemistry in accordance with the Approbation Regulations for Pharmacists (AAppO). The candidate should possess an excellent research profile with international visibility in the field of pharmaceutical and medicinal chemistry and engage in the experimental development of new active substances. The candidate’s research focus could include, for example, identifying, developing, and characterising new active substances, their effect mechanisms and their biological targets.

The candidate will be encouraged to cooperate with the working groups at the PharmaCampus, as well as with the Faculty of Chemistry and Pharmacy, other faculties of the natural sciences and medicine at the University of Münster. The candidate should augment the existing expertise in the field of active-substance research at the Institute in a thematically and methodically complementary manner. The candidate should also be willing to actively collaborate in focal research activities conducted by the Faculty of Chemistry and Pharmacy, in particular those in GRK 2515 (Chemical Biology of Ion Channels, ChemBion) as well as possible subsequent programmes, CRC 1450 (Multiscale Imaging of Organ-Specific Inflammation, inSight), CRC 1459 (Intelligent Matter: From Responsive to Adaptive Nanosystems), and the interdisciplinary research centres (ZMBE, SoN, MIC). The candidate’s teaching obligations include active participation in the state examination programme “Pharmacy” in accordance with the Approbation Regulations for Pharmacists (AAppO), the master’s degree programmes offered by the Faculty of Chemistry and Pharmacy and graduate training programmes.

To be considered for this position, the candidate should hold a university degree in pharmacy or related subjects in an adjacent field, a subject-relevant doctoral degree, and additional academic achievements in experimental pharmaceutical and medicinal chemistry made as a Juniorprofessor (assistant professor), in a Habilitation (postdoctoral qualification), as a member of the academic staff of a university or non-university research institute, or in a research position in business, industry, administration or other relevant field in Germany or abroad.

We expect the candidate to have experience teaching pharmaceutical and medicinal chemistry to students of pharmacy. After an adequate transition period, the candidate will be required to teach the relevant courses in German. Furthermore, the candidate should actively participate in managing and developing the PharMSchool project. We expect the candidate to independently conduct academic administrative duties.
