In the Microbiology Department of the Institute of Biological Sciences at University of Rostock, we investigate the physiology and the biochemistry of non-standard anaerobic microorganisms, including thermophiles, acetogens, and bacteria inhabiting the gastrointestinal tract. We apply our findings from our basic research toward generating microbial strains of potential biotechnological relevance.
