The ZEW – Leibniz Centre for European Economic Research in Mannheim, Germany is one of the leading economic research institutes in Europe. The ZEW is a non-profit organization and works in the field of frontier empirical economic research and high-level policy advice. It is integrated into an extensive national and international network of universities and research institutes. In collaboration with the Leibniz ScienceCampus Mannheim Taxation, the ZEW is looking to fill the following position in the Research Department "Corporate Taxation and Public Finance"
Position Description
Your doctoral studies will begin with a one-year full-time course phase in the taxation program of the Center for Doctoral Studies in Business (CDSB) at the Graduate School of Economics and Social Sciences (GESS), University of Mannheim, starting in September 2026. During this phase, you will receive a scholarship. Upon successful completion of the course phase, you will enter the research phase of the doctoral program and join ZEW (or alternatively the tax group at the University of Mannheim) as a doctoral researcher.
Your main responsibilities include:
• Conducting academic research and contributing to science-based policy advice in the field of corporate taxation and public finance
• Focusing on corporate taxation in a European and global context
• Applying and developing innovative quantitative and empirical methods
• Publishing research results and contributing to policy debates
About you
• A Master’s degree in economics, business administration, or a related field, with good or excellent results
• A strong interest in taxation, ideally demonstrated through coursework, a master’s thesis, or research projects
• Excellent quantitative and analytical skills
• Strong academic writing skills and the ability to work effectively in a team
• Fluency in English and German
